Description:
Densely branched, deciduous tree with 4-6" leaves. Form can be irregular. Abundant, upright, 3-4" long, pure-white, orchidscented flowers appear on bare branches in March-April.

The Yulan is the symbol of purity, feminine sweetness, and beauty. When paired with crabapple, it signifies wealth. Yulan appears in early Chinese paintings and is used as a decorative motif. Portions of the flower are pickled and used to flavor rice; the seeds are used for oil. Flower buds are picked in early spring, dried and then used in Chinese medicine to clear nasal passages.
